Robin Sanford Roberts

Welcome to my Homepage!

Working in theatrical design is the perfect culmination of my education and life long interests. As long as I can remember I have been interested in art and design. Building objects, making jewelry, designing structures and creating art have always been my passion.

Originally I studied architecture and worked several years in the business. After a life altering summer of study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainbleau, I made a decision to pursue a more creative path. In 1991, I moved to San Diego to study at UCSD (University of California San Diego) in the graduate program of Theatrical Set design.

After receiving my MFA, I worked at the Old Globe Theatre as resident design assistant for several years. In 1996, I received an NEA/TCG grant and traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe working with and observing amazing artists such as Anne Bogart, Theadora Skipitaras, Joaane Akalitis, John Conklin and Jahne Mathieson.

I currently have a studio in San Diego, CA and teach design courses at University of San Diego. I am a member of USA (United Scenic Artists) 829 and USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology).
